On this page I will reflect on my learning, my experiences during this teacher training, my training practice and hopefully on some memorable teaching experiences in the classroom.
The gentlemen in charge of this course have put together a list of issues to ponder on. I will think about these one at a time and come back to them periodically as my journey into the world of teaching continues. This is my way of keeping track of the processes of reflection that I may go through during this training.
•My most memorable learning experiences
I find it very hard to pinpoint any one particular learning experience. I view my life as one continuous learning experience during which my best and most skillful teachers have been my kids. I may have taught them manners and I may have taught them about the world and how it works but they have taught me what the most important things in life are.
•My formal studies & learning history (classroom and virtual)
I have a BA in English Philology and Applied Linguistics. In addition to that I have a PhD in Business and Economics; I did research on the construction of entrepreneurial identities in the family business context. This was a cross-cultural study, my respondents were Finnish and Louisianan family business owners.

•My personal teaching history
When I started my university studies (a very long time ago), my first and foremost thought was to become anything but a teacher. Therefore I chose the researchers path in my department. I later on continued my studies in a completely different field which all of a sudden turned out to be so much more pragmatically oriented that it literally forced my hand to apply for vocational teacher training. I'm so glad I did.

•How do people learn the best in vocational settings?
Learning by doing would be the best setting in my opinion. I think it is to this end that a considerable amount of teaching hours within the vocational schools take place in the work place.

•My preferred learning styles
I really like the old-fashioned way of learning the most in which I get read books, write essays and listen to smart lectures talk. This does not mean that what we have been doing here is not fun, it is just a question of time, work, time and time as a resource. The old-fashioned way supports the individual scheduling so much better.

•The traits of effective teacher
I think that one of the most important trait of a good teacher is the skill to listen. A teacher that has good listening skills is often the one that is really sensitive to the student's needs.

•How the curriculum directs the development of studies?
The curriculum can be essential in the development of studies. In the IB the curriculum is at its core globally the same because the need to moderate assessment practices as well.

•What methods of assessment can I use and in which contexts?
My "assessment practice" thus far has been assessing TOK essays and oral presentations. I do tend to revert back to my qualitative researcher's background in this respect as well.

•How do I use technology in my field of pedagogy?
Ted Talks are very popular globally in the TOK classrooms so really the most used technological aid that I use is videos in the class room.

•Analysis of my competences in teaching
I have a very long way to go in my development as a teacher. My competences at the moment rely on the human contact that I try and establish with my students as I sincerely care about how they are doing in their studies as well as in their lives. I need to develop the formal competences such as planning, assessing and the use of technology more.
